“Tipico” because it arise from the traditional music of Venezuela and “non troppo” because the approach, arrangements and executions take it out of the context called “traditional”. Even if “typical” or “traditional” has a non-specific meaning, “tipico ma non troppo” embraces the everyday language of new venezuelan musicians. Thereupon, it proposes a fresh outlook with some jazz-like elements mixed with classical and other styles that, thanks to the versatility of the musicians participating, provides an unique color and an unique nature.
This is my first solo album. It proposes the fusion and integration of two essential musical fields: The oboe, generally confined on the classical/orchestral sphere, acts as the leading instrument of traditional venezuelan music. However, the title also reminds us “allegro ma non troppo”, the indications of tempo used on music sheets of orchestral works, which uphold my strong bond with the classical academic education. This is how “Tipico ma non troppo” looks forward to mix those musical ingredients of my academic background with the specific characteristics of my own culture.
